Medium Term Plans for the Summer!

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter break; we’ve lots of exciting things planned for the summer term. Please find attached our Mind Map to show the curriculum planned for this term! Summer 1 Medium Term Plan air travel overview (1)

Our topic this term is air travel, this topic gives us the opportunity to look at air travel and how it first developed and has changed to modern day. We will find out who first invented the plane and what it looked like.  Some significant figures in air travel history.  Famous planes and their importance, moving onto space travel and travel in the future.

As writers we are going to be writing persuasive letters taking on the point of view of a famous figure, poetry, historical stories and recounts.

As mathematicians we will be calculating the passing of time, learning written methods for division, addition and subtraction and measure; mass, volume, capacity and money.

As scientists we will be focusing on forces and magnets.  We are also expecting delivery of our seeds from space during the first week back and we will plant and monitor their progress, recording their success, as part of our Science this term.

As geologists we will be studying the globe and maps to compare the location of the significant air travel.

As historians we will be finding out about the history of air travel. Who invented the plane? How has air travel changed over the last 100 years?  Who are the significant figures related to air travel? What is the history of space travel and the future for space travel?

As artists we will be studying Peter Thorpe an abstract artist who paints pictures based on space, we will paint in his style.

In PE we will have cricket on a Monday outside and on Wednesday mornings we will have swimming lessons which will start the second week back.

In RE we will be focusing on Christianity and in particular answering the question: Is the cross a symbol of love, sacrifice or commitment for Christians?

As musicians we will be using the BBC 10 pieces to inspire us, in particular Holst Planets.

In ICT we will be presenters; writing a script and making a film.

A busy term ahead! Mrs Fairlie
