School Closure

Following the announcement yesterday by the Prime Minister, I am now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all that we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services, supermarket delivery drivers) and children with certain needs.

Please could you let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories? There is a paper copy for these children only to state which days next week your child will be in school, if they require Breakfast or After School Club (finishing at 4:30) and lunch requests. This will ensure that we have the correct staff: pupil ratios in place. There will be a First Aid trained and a Safeguarding member of staff in school each day to keep your child safe.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards please.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by text or letter. Our aim is to ensure that the students, parents, carers and staff are prepared for the closure. Despite the inevitable disruption and distress that a closure would bring, there is still much we can do to support learning during this period.

In order to prepare as a school, staff have worked together to implement a plan for remote learning during this uncertain time:

How will I communicate with my child’s class teacher?

Any questions you may have can be emailed to and your class teacher will respond as soon as is practical.

What resources will be available to the children?

All work for the Rabbit class will be set through the Tapestry. For Squirrel, Badger and Owl classes, work will be available on-line plus a workbook. Each child will be given activities using

  1. First create a gmail account
  2. Sign in by clicking go to classroom (blue button)
  3. Sign in
  4. There is an accompanying picture guide

  • Codes:
  • Owl: xqvvii4
  • Badger: bkyqgjp
  • Squirrels: xnxortz

Please also continue with daily reading, using their reading records, and perhaps they could create a diary. There may also be activities for the children, which can be accessed through the school website

How will I know which program/app to access?

Any information you need to complete the tasks will be on the school website alongside the tasks set.

How much time should my child spend completing tasks?

This is a very difficult question to answer. I know every family will be different but there needs to be a balance of learning, which will include being online, drawing, reading, creative and practical tasks, and outdoor play.

We believe that the preparations we are making will help to ensure that important learning can still take place in the event of the school closing as part of a national response to this public health emergency, or in the event of a self-isolation.

If you have any queries relating to our plans, please get in touch. If you are a family who do not have access to the internet then please contact the school so that we can provide learning material in a different format.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it is far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

I wish you and your family good health in the coming weeks and months and thank you for your support during these uncertain times. Our prayers are with you all.

Kind regards

Mrs Frances Parr Head Teacher
