Online safety meeting

On Monday this week, the online safety council and Mrs Smithson had a meeting and have many suggestions and ideas for helping to keep children in our school safe.

  • Following a concern raised at last meeting about children using TikTok and not always making safe choices, a flyer about this has been sent to parents, it has been mentioned on the newsletter and discussed in class with Years 5 and 6.
  • Suggestion from Year 3 child ~ we should have a slip that says ‘your child ___________ has been watching/ playing ___________ which is not suitable for their age’ to go home to parents when children are talking about inappropriate games, shows, films, etc. in school. We could keep a copy in school so we can see if lots of children are doing the same things. Mrs Smithson to make the slip and then share with teachers and see if this acceptable
  • We can make a questionnaire to complete about how children are using technology and online safety ~ online safety councillors can have this and ask the children during break and lunchtime.

Suggested questions: Do you have a ….phone/ laptop/ console/ tablet?

What games do you play?

Have you ever spoken to someone you don’t know online?

Has someone you don’t know ever spoken to you?

What would you do if something worried you online?

  • After we have done the survey, we can use the outcomes to help us plan an assembly
