First words from Mrs Gould!

Welcome to Owl Class

I hope you have all had a good summer and enjoyed all the lovely sunshine we have had. We have got a busy term ahead of us with lots of exciting learning opportunities planned. The topic for the first half of the autumn term is Pompeii and the volcano Vesuvius in the first half of term and The Battle of Britain during the second half term, it promises to be an explosive term. As writers we will be using our topics as stimulus for our writing, creating reports, diary entries, persuasive writing and poetry. As mathematicians we will be exploring place value to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000 and using the four operations with decimals to two places.  We will be exploring fractions, decimal fractions and percentage fractions. We will look at measurements of time, length and weight, 2-D shapes and statistics and graphical representation.

As historians we will be digging up the past as we discover facts about Pompeii and flying high like ‘The Few’ as we explore The Battle of Britain. As geographers we will be finding out about volcanoes and earth quakes and using maps to locate countries related to our topics. As scientists we will be exploring and investigating different materials and looking at living things and their habitats, learning about categorising and classification. As musicians we will be exploring musical instruments, orchestras, the inter-related dimensions of music and creating our own music. We will be creating a musical journey with our ‘music of the week’, where children will suggest a piece of music based on a link to the previous piece. As artists we will be exploring pattern and colour, looking at a variety of artists as a starting point. In French we will be talking and writing about ourselves, holidays and home. In RE we will be looking at Christianity and what faith means to different people and how their faith affects their lives. In PE we will be playing team games like tag rugby and exploring the choreography of dance. In computing we will be looking at coding, both plugged and unplugged.
