The Squirrel class are busy learning about China

Common exception words Y1 and 2Welcome back, I hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas and are looking forward to the term ahead. Our topic for the term is ‘Around the world’ and for this half term we will be focussing on China.

In literacy we will be writing a story set in a familiar setting based on the story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’. We will also be writing instructions on how to a woolly mammoth. Please have a look at http://www.roythezebra.com/ for some literacy games which you could play with your child at home. As mathematicians we will be looking at fractions, 3D shape, the four operations and volume/capacity. Please have a look at Jack Hartmann on YouTube for some fun songs to help your child learn their times tables. As scientists we will be looking at and classifying animals. In history we will be looking at the first aeroplane flight and learning about Orville and Wilbur Wright. In geography we will be looking at China and learning about where China is in the world. We will continue to have PE on a Wednesday and Friday, please could you ensure that your child has their PE kit in on these days and that they are named. Children will now be sent home with both spellings and times tables to practise on a Friday and these will be tested on the following Friday. For year 2 children if you would like any information on SATs and any materials to use to practise with your child at home then please do not hesitate to ask me, I am always available before and after school. Thank you for your continued support and I am looking forward to the half term ahead.
